Nestled within the commercial development of Hann’s Residence in Sibu, Sarawak, Otel Hotel Suite is a 50-room boutique hotel project occupying two units of six-storey shop-lots. The design direction for this boutique hotel stems from the trendy and vibrant atmosphere of the Hann’s Residence development. In selecting the vibrant orange hue as the primary element, we aim to encapsulate the area's dynamic and contemporary lifestyle.
To ensure a seamless flow throughout the space, the open-plan layout of the lobby invites guests to move effortlessly from one area to another. Together with the use of fluid curves throughout the lobby, this design choice establishes a sense of continuity and spaciousness that is welcoming. Texture plays a vital role in adding depth and character to the space. Area rugs with intricate patterns define specific zones, while textured fabrics and the curved patterned wall of the reception office create visual interest. Our design approach emphasizes space efficiency while maintaining utmost functionality in the rooms. Considering the site's constraints within the shop-lots, the bathroom has to be strategically placed at the front end of the room rather than at the entry area, which limits the amount of natural light into the room. To compensate, a light and minimal color palette has been applied to create a bright and inviting entry to the room. In half of the rooms, a clever design approach has been implemented where the bathroom door serves a dual purpose, functioning as both the entry point and the shower enclosure. The amenities area also integrates a multifunctional unit that combines the pantry, wardrobe, and study desk. This innovative layout optimizes the use of the available space.
